Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara has announced that the state is shifting its focus away from party politics and towards a movement based on truth and consistency.

The governor made the declaration on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, at Government House in Port Harcourt.

The governor declared that the state will no longer be held back by party affiliation, but will instead stand firm on its own soil to defend democracy.

According to Fubara: “In our state today we are no longer doing party. We are doing a movement, so you don’t blame me if I don’t go to the side of party too much.

“The party has failed us here, so what we are doing here is to stand with our two legs on the soil of Rivers State, so that we can defend democracy.”

The development comes amid a lingering political crisis in the state, which began last year between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the conflict escalated with the replacement of Pro-Wike Local Government Chairmen with Caretaker Committee Chairmen.

Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to which both Wike and Fubara belong, has been silent on disciplining Wike, fueling speculations of his influence among the party’s decision-makers.
