Minimum Wage Negotiations Resume as Labour, FG Meet in Abuja

Representatives of organized labour, the private sector, the federal and state governments have resumed negotiations for a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage reconvened on Wednesday at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

In attendance are Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeacha, and the Head of Service of the Federation.

Organised Labour was represented by Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero and Trade Union Congress President Festus Osifo. Although state governors were absent, the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulateef Shittu, participated in the meeting.

This meeting follows the suspension of the indefinite strike by Organised Labour on Tuesday, conditional on daily negotiations for a new minimum wage.

President Bola Tinubu has urged the committee to expedite the process, compute figures, and submit them to him.

Recall that the President expressed commitment to a wage above N60,000.
