Governor Uba Sani has described a recent attack by Bashir, son of his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a mere distraction.

Governor Sani had lamented the inability of his government to pay salaries due to the huge debt inherited from former Governor El-Rufai on May 29, 2023.

The governor specifically said El-Rufai left him with a debt of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities.

“Despite the huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and N115 billion contractual liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” Sani had said.

In a swift reaction on Saturday, Bashir accused Governor Sani of abandoning his official duties to incompetent aides and relocating to Abuja.

But speaking through his spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, the governor said he would not dignify Bashir with a response to his attack.

“The task ahead of us is enormous and we won’t trade that for trivialities. His Excellency Senator Uba Sani has categorically stated the true financial status of the state,” Shehu said.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has has suspended the Women’s Leader, Maryam Suleiman, for criticising Governor Sani over the huge debt inherited from the previous administration.
