The Kogi State Police Command has initiated an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators responsible for the kidnapping of Abuja-bound travellers in two separate buses owned by God is Good Motors and ABC Transport.
The incident happened at Inyenle Eteke, Ogugu, Olalamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Social media influencer Chude Nnamdi first reported the incident on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle. The buses, en route to Abuja, were reportedly hijacked by kidnappers.
“The report reaching me this morning is that a GIG & ABC Transport buses heading to Abuja were hijacked by kidnappers yesterday in Kogi State.
“The GIG bus left Umuahia at 7:30 am and was hijacked at Kogi State. GIG Company said they have contacted security services, and they are tracking them,” Chude disclosed.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command acknowledged the abduction and assured that a search and rescue operation had been launched to free the victims. The command also initiated a search to apprehend the kidnappers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, reported that the Area Commander leading the operation located the two buses but could not confirm the number of occupants.
However, a subsequent statement clarified, “God is Good Motors was with 12 passengers while ABC was with two passengers.”
It was also mentioned that the driver of the ‘God is Good’ Motors, Mr Godwin Oniovosa, was successfully rescued, while efforts in combing the area for the remaining victims continued.
