The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, has sought the support and cooperation of Remo indigenes in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, to stand up against incessant cult killings and other forms of criminality that have led to destruction of lives and property in the area.
Oba Ajayi made the call while addressing the people at a rally organised by the Police Command, in collaboration with the state government and Council of Obas, at Ita-Oba, Sagamu, to sensitise members of the public towards curbing criminal activities and ensure peaceful co-existence among divergent ethnic groups in the area.
“The State government is bent on curbing criminality in the society. We can no longer tolerate hoodlums in our community; their activities have caused much havoc. Henceforth, anybody caught disturbing the peace in the society will be made to face the wrath of the law”, he said.
The monarch condemned the rate at which cult activities had endangered the lives of innocent people in the society and sent some to their early graves, advising miscreants to desist or face appropriate sanctions.
Also speaking, the Baale, Arigbabu Community, Chief Fatunde Oyemade, enjoined youths to engage in profitable businesses that would secure their future, urging them to shun all forms of vices and embrace peace, calling on parents to keep watch of their children and lead them on the righteous part.
While speaking in an interview, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, said the state government would no longer tolerate miscreants and hoodlums in Sagamu, calling on individuals to maintain peace and orderliness, to fast track development.
The PPRO called on youths to desist from cultism, domestic violence, land grabbing, and cybercrime, among others, advising the public to support government and other security agencies in the fight against criminality in the society.
Appreciating the organisers of the rally, Mrs. Kudirat Olayinka, a trader, noted that the sensitisation had enlightened the people on the need to stand up against social vices in the area, assuring that the people would continue to support government in its efforts towards curbing violence in all ramifications.
