Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said the State Public Service has been transformed with a fool-proof system being institutionalised, to ensure that only those with the necessary skills can attain leadership positions, as it is no longer business as usual.
Talabi made this known during a week-long training programme tagged: "Tailor-Made-Training (TMT)", organised by the Dutch Embassy and Free University, Amsterdam, Netherlands, in collaboration with the State government, to train 55 healthcare workers drawn from all the Ministries, Department, and Agencies (MDAs) of government in the health sector.
Mr. Talabi stated that the present administration has continually invested in capacity building that would make the workforce stand out among its peers in the country, to further achieve efficient service delivery.
The State’s scribe said, ‘’It is not enough to be a qualified healthcare practitioner, but only regular capacity building will distinguish them as workers in government, to enable them to deliver the best services to the people of the State’’.
He expressed delight with the selection process of the participants for the workshop, saying their pedigree mirrored the standard practice in Ogun State.
In her presentation titled, "Leadership for the Transformation of Health System in Ogun State", Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, said the successes recorded by the State in the area of healthcare delivery were evidence of Governor Dapo Abiodun's exemplary leadership over the years.
She stated that the Governor had shown commitment to the review of the remuneration and capacity building of health workers across the State, adding that his strides had created a robust foundation for them to work towards achieving the present administration's vision of easy access to qualitative healthcare for all residents.
In her welcome address, the Project Director for the TMT, Dr. Mekky Zaidi, said that the training was aimed at strengthening the managerial and leadership skills of participants, adding that it would help them address health systems gaps more efficiently.
Dr. Zaidi expressed optimism that the capacity-building programme would help the State government optimise recent investment in infrastructure in the health sector through the leadership efficiency of the participants.
Responding on behalf of other participants, the Director of Health Insurance, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Dr. Sarat Adebayo, described the capacity-building programme as essential in strengthening the health system of the State, appreciating the organisers for investing in the State’s human resources.
