The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Public Works, Engr. Babatunde Adeshina has disclosed the readiness of the present administration to embark on the maintenance of 100 roads across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
Engr. Adeshina, shared this information while highlighting the condition of roads in the State in a radio interview. He emphasized the state government's commitment to impartiality by ensuring an equitable focus across all local districts, avoiding any bias towards one over the other.
He advised the citizens of the state to be patient with the State government, saying all roads cannot be rehabilitated at once but rather progressively. He highlighted that road rehabilitation is an ongoing process and the Ogun State Public Works Agency is considering prioritising primary roads before addressing secondary ones.
"100-year problems cannot be solved in one day. I appeal for your patience; the roads are many, and we have to start somewhere. Once we've started and continued at this pace, in the next few years, we will have covered a lot of ground”, he said.
Public Works boss hinted that road construction demands a substantial budget, and while the State government endeavours to manage funds effectively, they focus on constructing one part of a dual-carriageway to enhance people's mobility, assuring that the state government remains committed to completing the other side of every dual-carriageway that has already undergone construction across the State.
He lamented that the rain has posed a significant obstacle, often washing away the repair materials used on the roads, disclosing that the state’s Public Works Agency would be able to accomplish more work as soon as the rain subsides.
He advised the citizens to refrain from any unauthorized methods of disposing of refuse that block the road drainages and hinder the smooth flow of water, causing damage to the roads, urging motorists to adhere to the designated speed limits assigned to each road by law.
