Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has tasked Local Government Commission to double its efforts at eliciting timely feedback from the Local Government Council Areas across the state being the frontline administrators at the grassroots in order to assist government plan effectively and be abreast of developments as they unfold at the local areas across the state.

Abiodun who stated this while addressing the Management and Staff of the State Local Government Service Commission after their street campaign within the Abeokuta metropolis before terminating at the Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of activities commemorating the 2023 Local Government Service Commission Week, wants the Local Government Staff to assist the state government to enhance governance and improve service delivery at the grassroots.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the Government of Ogun State, Mr Tokunbo Talabi noted that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was fully committed to exploring the mechanism of the local Government Administration as the closest to the people to improve livelihood and create more wealth for people of the grassroots to tackle incessant rural-urban drift.

According to Abiodun this conviction necessitated the premium attention it had given to the Commission in order to fulfil its core mandates, saying as you aware, we have a conviction that the local government being the closest to the people will be quite helpful in driving our developmental initiative at the grassroots. This was why we took decisive steps to fill the gaps we observed at the local government level culminating into the employment of 600 medical personnel to enhance our healthcare plan at that level including covering more years of gratuities for local government retirees.

The governor urged the local government employees to support his administration effectively by 'keeping their ears to the ground', building an effective feedback mechanism, and endearing themselves to the people of the grassroots in order for his administration to deliver more dividends of democracy in line with its  good governance agenda to the council areas across the state.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Ogun State Local Seevice Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo who led the campaign, informed that the celebration was the maiden edition of the service week to be celebrated by the commission hinging the initiative and other success stories by the commission in recent years to the support it got from the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

Onabanjo said "your excellency we indeed very grateful for the support we have gotten so far from you. This is the first time the local government commission will organise the service week celebration. We must also commend you for your various reforms leading to the employment of 600 medical workers at the local government level.

"This street campaign is one of the various programmes lines up to commemorate our week. We commenced last week Friday with Jummat service and Thanksgiving service on Sunday followed by medical outreach across the four political zones of the state among others. We assure you of our unflinching support and commitment to your administration towards delivering your set objectives at the grassroots",  Onabanjo submitted.
