SUPPORT OGUN GOVT TAX REFORMS BUDGET COMM. URGES PROFESSIONALS

 


 Tax practitioners in Ogun State have been admonished to support the present administration's tax reforms towards achieving an enviable economy for all.


 Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan,  made the call in Abeokuta at the Investiture of Mrs Oluyomi Aderonke Dawodu as the 9th Chairman of Chartered Institute of Taxation (CITN).


He revealed that taxation is a fundamental tenet of contemporary society and it has a significant impact on government, the economy, and by extension the citizen’s standard of living, calling on all tax officials and stakeholders to be faithful and accountable to their calling.


 Olabimtan added that taxation majorly contributes to funding for fundamental infrastructural purposes, saying "Without taxation, there won't be any people-centric development, and through payment of our taxes, we can all contribute our own quota to state, national development".


 He added that tax professionals are crucial collaborators in managing the intricate and dynamic world of taxation, they ensure strict adherence to tax rules and regulations, while people and organizations are assisted in meeting their tax obligations, minimizing their tax liabilities, and making wise financial decisions.


 


          Speaking in capacity as the Special Guest of Honour , Olabimtan explored the significance of taxation, the evolving landscape of taxation in the 21st century, as well as the role of the tax practitioners across board, maintaining that changes in taxes affect the average consumer's income leading to changes in consumption lead to changes in real GDP.


 He noted that evolving landscape in the world of taxation had affected globalization, technological advancements, and evolving societal issues are been challenged by the growth of digital economy, disclosing that tax stakeholders are proffering workable strategies to overcome these gaps and promote a more equitable distribution of resources.


           Lending voice at the event, the President and Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, represented by the Deputy National President, Mr. Simon Kato, who congratulated both the outgoing executives for a job well done, and the incoming exco to work assiduously and selflessly to make the district a point of reference for others, calling for responsive leadership by the new executives.


             In her acceptance speech as the Chairman of CITN Abeokuta District, Mrs Dawodu pledged the commitment of her team members towards upholding the core values of the Institute which are Service, Teamwork, Excellence and Professionalism all in pursuant of the task ahead, adding that their "Catch them Young" initiative would witness the inauguration of the Tax Club of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,  promising that the District under watch would continue to encourage younger individuals to be responsible, and be progressive to matters of national development.


 High point of the Investiture, which also witnessed the inauguration of the District Executive and Mrs. Patience Olatunbosun, as the State's District coordinator of the Society for Women Taxation (SWIT) was the change of the leadership baton.
