A road linking Ijeja to Igbore in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State has been temporarily closed due to the collapse of a box culvert on the road, which poses a weighty risk to commuters plying the road.
This decision follows an on-the-spot inspection of the area by the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Babatunde Adeshina, with team of engineers from the Public Works Agency, which necessitated urgent attention to the culverts’ condition.
Engr. Adeshina stated that the base slab of the culvert had cracked, making it unsafe for further use, noting that the state of the culvert necessitates significant enhancement to ensure its continued functionality as a bridge.
He reiterated the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government's commitment to the safety of the residents, saying his office would ensure speedy restoration of the culvert for the convenience of road users.
The Governor's aide said, "The twin-bus culvert has unfortunately failed due to water pressure and unexpected loading on the structure. I am confident that Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is concerned about the welfare of the citizens, will take decisive action".
Adeshina advised motorists to seek alternative routes pending the time of work and urged the public to cooperate with traffic management agencies, who will facilitate traffic redirection to further ensure the free flow of vehicular movement in the axis.
