Ogun State House of Assembly has decried the inconveniences caused by some reckless drivers of the Dangote Cement factory to the residents of the host communities including Ibese and surrounding communities in Yewa North Local Government Area as a result of damage done on electricity poles, vandalization of cables and continued damage and blockage of access roads resulting in close to two years of blackout in those communities.
The Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, lamented the carefree attitude of the drivers, while responding to the submissions of the member representing Egbado North I State Constituency, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, who spoke under personal explanation on the havoc wrecked on the communities and by extension the people of his constituency.
Oluomo stated that the activities of companies ought to be a great benefit to their host communities, directing that the Joint House Committees on Industry, Trade and Investments & as well as Environment should as a matter of urgency liaise with the Special Adviser, Works to the State Governor to invite the management team of Dangote Cement, Ibese for parley. This he noted was with a view to finding lasting solutions to all issues causing untold hardship for the host communities, especially immediate replacement of the damaged electric facilities.
Earlier, Hon. Adeyanju had decried the carefree attitude of the drivers, who continually damage electricity poles, which resulted in a black out for close to two years, and had equally damaged roads linking the communities without recourse to carrying out repairs in giving back to host communities.
In another development, Oluomo has appealed to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to ameliorate the suffering of the people, through the application of palliatives on all Federal Roads across the State with a view to making them more motorable for all categories of road users.
Acknowledging the previous efforts of Governor Abiodun on Federal Roads in the State, Speaker Oluomo called on the relevant Federal Government agencies to immediately take an assessment of all roads with a view to addressing their deficiencies to aid human and vehicular movements.
Oluomo's submissions followed the presentation of a member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Babatunde Tella, who spoke about the deplorable state of Soyoye/Asipa/Adio Adegunle Rounder road via Abeokuta- Ishaga Orile-Badagry Express Road, saying the present situation of the road was becoming unbearable for road users.
He equally sought the intervention of the State Governor on palliatives on the road to make it passable to reduce the suffering of motorists who had to take longer alternative routes.
