The Senate has appointed Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru (APC – Kwara South) as its new Deputy Leader.
The Senate also appointed Senator Nwebonyi Peter Onyeka (APC – Ebonyi North) as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate.
The new appointments were announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday.
Senator Ashiru, who was previously the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, was elevated to Deputy Senate Leader, which became vacant following the appointment of Senator Dave Umahi as Minister of Works by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Opeyemi Bamidele will continue to serve as the Senate Majority Leader, and Ali Ndume retains his position as the Chief Whip.
In the minority leadership, there have been no alterations. Simon Mwadkwon remains the Minority Leader, with Oyewumi Olalere serving as his Deputy.
Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Rufai Hanga hold the roles of Minority Whip and Deputy Minority Whip, respectively.
