Parents, guardians, and teachers have been charged to encourage learners to learn foreign languages even from scratch, saying it has a lot of advantages.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu made this known while playing host to the executive members of the Nigerian French Teachers Association (NAFT), Ogun State chapter in his Office at Abeokuta, saying the knowledge of foreign languages would ascertain enlightened citizenship that is both culturally and linguistically prepared to function in today's world.
He charged learners to see the opportunity of learning the French language as a rare one that should not be taken for granted, adding that well-qualified foreign language teachers are available in schools across the State to impart effectively and efficiently.
The Governor's aide said, "It is part of our mission to ensure that teaching and learning in our schools are actually of quality standard and up-to-date, the only way we can achieve this, is to ensure that teachers are given regular training and capacity building’’.
Speaking, the President, NAFT, Mr. Toyin Raheem appreciated the government for its unflinching support, encouragement, regular payment of palliative and peculiar allowances to all workers in the State to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, pledging their loyalty to the government and resilience to ensure adequate impartation of knowledge to learners is achieved.
