There are strong indications that President Bola Tinubu will send the second batch of his ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening today, Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Reports have it that the names of the second batch of nominees would either come on Tuesday night or very early on Wednesday morning.
This was disclosed by a source, who spoke to The Punch on condition of anonymity.
The source said the names of the new batch of ministerial nominees would be read at the plenary today.
“By Wednesday, the new set of nominees will be unveiled so that by Monday, we will be through with their screening,” the source said.
“We want to conclude with the screening before we go on our recess. We wouldn’t want a situation where we would go on recess, and we would now start calling lawmakers to back to come for screening,” the source added.
The Senate had postponed its annual recess to start the screening of nominees on Monday.
The Senate had on Monday screened 14 out of the 28 ministerial nominees earlier submitted by the President, while it screened nine on Tuesday.
The source said the Senate is keen to conclude the screening of the ministerial nominees before going on recess so that the President can have a full cabinet in place.
The source added that the Senate is also mindful of the fact that the President needs a full cabinet in place to effectively implement his policies.
