A mild drama ensued on Sunday, August 27, when a security aide to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, stopped his deputy, Philip Shaibu, from accessing his principal.
The incident was said to have transpired at the 32nd anniversary of Edo State, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
In photos obtained on Monday, August 28, a security operative was seen blocking Shaibu’s access to Obaseki during the event.
But speaking at the event, Shaibu pledged his loyalty to his principal, despite their rift.
However, Shaibu, at the same event, pledged his loyalty to Obaseki, describing him as his elder brother.
The deputy governor said:
“As for the issues that are around town when I was away, I really would not want to talk. Issues that concern my governor are not things I like to speak about on camera.
“He is my elder brother and boss and I don’t think I should talk about anything.
“And if I have issues with him, I think it is better settled at home and not in the media. I am well brought up.
“My loyalty to the governor remains absolute. I see that everybody is doing solidarity. I am also in solidarity with the governor.”
