As part of efforts to curtail the recent outbreak of a contagious Anthrax disease that kills animals and poses a risk to humans, the Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mr. Omobolaji Odusanya has engaged Local Butchers Association, to make them promote hygiene and safety protocols in their establishments.
Mr. Odusanya, who spoke at a meeting with the Butchers in Ijebu Igbo, said it was imperative to meet with key stakeholders and take proactive steps towards nipping the disease in the bud, as well as inform them on the best way to handle livestock.
The LG Boss assured that the authority of the council would provide necessary support, training, and resources on public health and safety, and initiate public awareness campaigns to educate residents on the symptoms, preventive measures, and the importance of seeking medical attention when they suspect any Anthrax-related symptoms.
He appealed to the butchers to be vigilant, follow the guidelines, and prioritise the well-being of members in their respective communities, calling for a synergy to combat the disease.
Responding, the Chairman of Butchers Association in the LGA, Alhaji Musa Abesin appreciated the council Chairman for his proactive measure in curtailing the deadly disease, saying proper monitoring by the veterinary experts would help checkmate the spread of the disease
