Following the approval of President Bola Tinubu’s N819 billion palliative request by the House of Representatives, reports indicate that the House will get N70 billion allocation from the money.
The money was meant to support the working conditions of new members.
Recall that Tinubu requested approval of N819 billion for palliative to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy on Nigerians.
Rep. Julius Ihonvere, the Majority Leader of the House, had presented for second reading a Bill from the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation of N819 billion.
According to the majority leader, this was for providing palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians are not happy with the development.
According to them, the money will solve nothing in the lives of people experiencing poverty.
A social media user, Michael Onodugu Nwaeke, in his submission, wrote:
“It is a waste of money because it can’t solve any problem. Things are very expensive; even 8k can’t afford three tubers of yam or cassava or corn or tomatoes and onions.
“Better provide jobs or convenience and secure the environment for people to go back to farming and reduce import duties and open borders for people to bring in foodstuffs and bring down the dollars exchange rate.
“The nonsense palliative is a fraud. Nigerians has no data that shows who is poor and who is rich is just a fraud that is worst than subsidies. 99% of poor people have no bank accounts.
“This government thinks Nigerians are mugus. This old men and women are evil and never wants growth for Nigerians. Use the 500b for healthcare subsidies and education subsidies and build roads than sharing the money. Let Nigerians breath, Mr President.”
