Vice President Kashim Shettima has just arrived in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, to mark the commemoration of the 2023 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, had yesterday emphasised the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger-Delta region.
Lagbaja expressed this assurance during an interactive session with media executives in Ibadan as part of the activities lined up for the army day celebration.
Lagbaja stated, “The army will prioritize addressing the situation in the Niger-Delta region while remaining focused on other parts of the country in line with the current government’s mandate.”
Furthermore, Lagbaja highlighted that the Nigerian Army relies on modern equipment in its fight against insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities.
The Nigerian Army Day is an annual event held on 6 July to honor the members of the Nigerian Army, particularly those who served in World War I and World War II, as well as those who sacrificed their lives during the Nigerian Civil War.
It is also a day to recognize the current serving members of the Nigerian Army.
