According to POLITICS NIGERIA, this development has further heightened tensions regarding the governor’s health status, as key state actors are reportedly vying for power in his absence.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, confirmed the receipt of the letter in Akure, the state capital.
In his letter, Governor Akeredolu explained that the request for an extension was based on medical advice, emphasizing the need for him to rest adequately after his recovery.
Upon receiving the letter on behalf of the other lawmakers, the Speaker acknowledged that the governor’s action was in accordance with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Speaker Oladiji expressed gratitude to God for the governor’s speedy recovery and expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duties.
Governor Akeredolu stated in the letter that his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would continue to act as the governor until a written declaration states otherwise.
