Four Names Reportedly Added to Tinubu’s Ministerial List as Deadline Nears

President Bola Tinubu has yet to submit his list of ministerial nominees to the Senate four days before the expiration of the 60-day constitutional provision.

Reports have it that, according to sources at the presidency, the list is ready, but the President is still making some changes.

One source said that four names have been withdrawn and replaced with new names, reports Vanguard.

Another source said the delay is due to the opposition to the President’s preferred candidate to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The source said that some APC stalwarts prefer former Nasarawa State governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, to replace Senator Adamu.

They say that Al-Makura is more “cool-headed” than Ganduje and that he would not be a liability to the party.

It was learnt that Ganduje was initially under consideration for a ministerial position. However, due to the resignation of Senator Adamu, the President is now contemplating nominating Ganduje as an possible replacement for the former chairman. The decision is influenced by Ganduje’s North-Western background, which is the same region Senator Adamu hails from.

When inquired about the ministerial list, a highly placed source said, “We are yet to get the final list of the ministerial nominees.

“If we have received it, the Clerk of the National Assembly would have read it out, there will be no need to keep the list if it is received.”

Another source said that as of Friday, the President was still editing the list and will submit the final list this week.

The source said: “As of Friday, the list is with Baba but I don’t know of yesterday (Saturday). Every minute he is changing some names, up till Friday when he travelled, he still edited some names. But by this week, he will call the Presidential Liaison Officer to the Senate and give him the list.

“It’s this week that he will send the list and Senate will clear the nominees this week.”

A lawmaker from the South-West said that the Senate President has been given the list, but that the delay is due to the “addition and subtraction” to the list.

The lawmaker said that the President is also considering the politics around the choice of the APC chairman.

He said that most APC leaders do not want Ganduje as national chairman.

The Senate is expected to receive the list of nominees this week.
