A source in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that some vacant positions in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, like that of Abdullahi Adamu (national) and Iyiola Omisore (secretary), need to be filled.
The source, an APC chieftain, noted that the replacement can only happen if an elective convention is conducted.
The source said: “You know we lost the National Welfare Secretary, Deputy National Publicity Secretary resigned, and if the chairman and the secretary are made to resign, the NEC will have to approve a midterm elective national convention of the party to fill the vacant positions.”
Another APC insider claimed that some executive members of the ruling party had since picked a replacement for Omisore but added that what delayed the change in leadership was the choice of replacement for Adamu.
The resignations of Adamu and Omisore are expected to be officially announced on Monday, July 17, at the NWC meeting ahead of the Caucus and NEC meetings scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19, respectively.
Recall that Adamu, reacting to news of his resignation, told reporters he would speak on the issue when President Bola Tinubu returns from Kenya.
