Ogun State Governor has said his administration’s investment and emergency intervention in the health sector, especially at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu, had paid off, as it now delivers comprehensive tertiary health care services.
Abiodun, who revealed this at the Appreciation Luncheon/Awards organised by the management of OOUTH, Sagamu, said the hospital had taken shape as a standard medical facility.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi stated that the present government at the onset declared a state of emergency in the health sector, adding that a committee was constituted to look into the situation of the hospital and come up with recommendations.
According to Abiodun, “we are not only glad that life has returned to the hospital, but it has just begun to function in full capacity worthy of a tertiary facility”.
He commended the Board of the Teaching Hospital, led by Dr. Adekunle Hassan and the members of staff for their dedication and commitment to saving lives, noting that there is still more to be done.
The Governor acknowledged the award winners for their outstanding performances, assuring that his administration would not relent in motivating its workforce.
In his remark, the Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Hammed Ojo, commended the management of the hospital for recognising the meritorious service rendered to the State by its staff, as well as other illustrious sons and daughters who have served in the hospital since its establishment.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Board of Management, OOUTH, Dr. Kunle Hassan, lauded the effort of the Board Members, Heads of Departments, Unions and Staff for the support given to him since his assumption of office and most especially, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the trust reposed in him to be able to change the system and make it more efficient.
In her address, the Chief Medical Director, OOUTH, Dr. Olubunmi Fatungase appreciated the Governor for the monumental developments that had adorned the nooks and crannies of the hospital, noting that the award ceremony was the first to be organised in the facility.
Giving his royal blessings, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, who doubles as the Chairman, Council of Obas, HRM, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, assured them of his readiness to always support the facility when the need arises.
Award recipients include, the immediate past HoS, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal, Senior Special Assistant on Health, Dr. Kehinde Ololade, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, Oba Ajayi, former Chief Medical Directors, Dr. Haroun Ajibode and Prof. Aderibigbe Shonubi as well as the pioneer Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Kikelomo Enaholo.
