The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun has described Auditors' roles in the Public Service as strategic for a robust internal control, aimed at ensuring accountability and verifying the accuracy of financial statements.
Mr. Fagbohun who stated this while declaring open a 2- Day Capacity Building Training for the second batch of Auditors in the State Civil Service, held at the Staff Development Centre, Oke- Ilewo, Abeokuta, said that Auditors play pivotal roles in ensuring the judicious use of public resources.
He said the training was designed to further improve the capacity of Auditors for enhanced performance, and called on them to take responsibility for continuous professional growth by updating their skills and investing in their personal development.
It would be recalled that the first batch of the training took place on the 7th and 8th March, 2023 and there was the need to equip more Auditors to enhance the quality of their service delivery.
The Number One Civil Servant in the State further said the training was intended to acquaint participants with the rules, regulations, extant practices and procedures of the Public Service, to further entrench discipline, evolve re- orientation and attitudinal change among Public Servants.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said, the training was in demonstration of the recognition of the role of Auditors in the management of public resources and the need to equip them for the performance of the important function.
On his part, the Auditor-General of the State, Mr. Abdulateef Balogun, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for the training, saying it would rejuvenate their performances and help to do their jobs efficiently.
In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye, said Auditors are very important in preventing agencies from going against the rules, calling on them to be open minded and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Oyejola Oyeneye asked the participants to set aside any distraction and remain focused for the tasks ahead.
In his lecture, the Resource Person, Mr. Samson Olutoki, who spoke on "Audit Planning and Documentation" said Auditors must plan ahead before any audit assignment in order to have direction, maximise resources and to achieve set objectives.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Adeliyi Mofeoluwa and Mrs. Abiola Adesokan appreciated the State Government for the training, and promised to use the knowledge gained for the progress of the State.
