Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says the 150million Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) Ibefun Natural Gas City-Gate will support, drive and complement his administration's gas mobility project, through which the gas-powered mass transit vehicle scheme will be introduced.
Governor Abiodun, who made this known during the commissioning of the Ibefun Natural Gas City-Gate in Odogbolu Local Government Area, disclosed that the project would help the State deploy electric motorcycles to reduce carbon emissions.
A Natural Gas City-Gate serves as a connection point between the high-pressure natural gas transmission system and the lower-pressure local distribution system,that delivers natural gas to homes, and businesses in a particular region.
The Governor noted that completion of the facility marks another milestone in the history of gas penetration in the State and the country as a whole, adding that energy remains an important enabler in his administration's ISEYA mantra as encapsulated in the ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda of his administration.
The State helmsman also stated that the commissioning of the project would sustain and improve his administration’s public-private initiatives and policy as well as support the 'Light Up Ogun’ project, to create sustainable energy for the people, adding that it is key to achieving more development in Agriculture, Health, Commerce and Industry, and Education, as well as the growth of Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in the State.
"Why we cannot underestimate the importance of energy to the development of the economy, it is just right to appreciate Transit Gas Nigeria Limited for this initiative and this investment that will further support the industrial revolution of Ogun State", he said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Director, Gas and Power, NNPC Limited, Engr. Abdulkabir Ahmed said the country was blessed with natural gas amounting to over 200 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF), noting that it is imperative for players in the industry to ensure that natural gas is put to use domestically.
Kyari, who noted that the 150 million Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) Ibefun Natural Gas City- Gate would create jobs and enhance development, pointed out that the project could not have been possible without the enabling environment provided by the present administration in the State.
Also speaking, the Managing Director, Transit Gas Nigeria Limited (TGNL), Mr. Bolaji Osunsanya, disclosed that the completion of the project would help deepen natural gas utilisation, promote investment, contribute to job creation and improve the distribution of natural gas to end users in Sagamu zones, among other benefits.
In his remarks, the Liken of Ibefun, Oba Gideon Adesina said the natural gas project is a notable investment that had brought development to the community, appreciating Governor Abiodun for creating the enabling environment that gave birth to the Ibefun Natural Gas City-Gate.
