The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, has attributed the lack of technical education and skills acquisition to the high rate of unemployment among youths in the country.
The Governor’s aide therefore advised youths to embrace skill acquisition for them to be relevant in the labour market.
Prof. Odemuyiwa handed down the advice while featuring on a local television personality programme tagged "New Dawn".
He added that the present administration gave high priority to technical education so that every student who came out of school could learn a skill during the course of their study which would make them to be relevant at all times.
According to him, "acquisition of skills is something you can do with your hands that can make you self-independent, not just being able to speak good English but to do something with your hands that will earn you income.
"Our young ones will want to go for something that would make them wear suits and ties, and that is why they are looking for jobs that are not available in society. Why can't we be job creators instead of job seekers?.
The Governor's aide advised the youths to be more focused and ensure that they also equip themselves technologically, saying learners should visit the Tech-Hub built by the State Government so as to be well grounded in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
