The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attributing his fourth consecutive term electoral success to the glory of God and the unflinching support from his constituents.
The Speaker, who disclosed this shortly after the presentation ceremony held at the INEC Office in Abeokuta, noted that he alongside other 25 members- elect of the incoming 10th Assembly had resolved to build on the legacy of the present legislature through improved representation that would lead to the enactment of more legislations aimed at addressing revolving dynamics of the society.
Commending the electoral umpire for an improved electoral exercise in the nation, the Speaker recounted the tough electoral process in his Constituency leading to a rerun.
He sought for more cooperation from the people to the Commission with a view to sustaining the principles of free and fair election across the nation for the growth of nation's democracy.
He further acknowledged that the Nation's legislative system required rich experience with years of parliamentary knowledge to make meaningful contribution to deepen democratic practices as it is done in advanced democracies.
Oluomo also appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for his leadership role, which had led to the spread of democratic dividends to all parts of the State.
Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye explained that the presentation of the Certificate to the Speaker was in consonance with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandated the Commission to issue a Certificate of Return within 14 days to every candidate who has been returned elected under the law.
