Towards accelerating positive changes in the water sector, Ogun State Government has restated its commitment towards ensuring adequate water supply and sanitation for all, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ forum, as part of activities marking this year's World Water Day with the theme, "Accelerating Change" at the Oba's Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Commissioner said to make the accelerating change possible in the sector, the government and stakeholders must use the forum to take a critical diagnosis affecting the sector and proffer practical and sustainable solutions.
Oresanya also used the opportunity to commend some of the stakeholders, especially companies executing projects on sustainable water management, saying their efforts would greatly contribute to the development of the State’s desire at accelerating the positive change in water and sanitation sector.
Delivering a keynote address during the forum, Managing Director of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Otunba Olufemi Odumosu stated that providing access to safe water is one of the most effective instruments of reducing poverty alleviation, emphasising the need to speed up action towards sustainable management of water resources with just seven years left to achieve the SDG.
The theme for this year's World Water Day draws attention to the need for quick action to solve the global water and sanitation crisis.
