IMBIBE TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVENESS, HoS URGES AUDITORS

Auditors in the Ogun State Civil Service have been called upon to imbibe training as a very important tool in making efficiency and effectiveness their watchword, especially now that the civil service is being repositioned for better service delivery.

The Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro, made the call while declaring open a 2-day capacity building training put together by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, for Auditors in the Civil Service held at the Staff Development Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

According to him, the training was meant to improve the quality and effectiveness of the State's public finance managers and appreciated the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unrelenting commitment towards training and retraining of the workforce.

"Auditing is a critical function that ensures effective and efficient use of public resources. As auditors, you play a vital role in ensuring that government's financial statements are accurate and reliable. Your work is essential in safeguarding public assets and ensuring that they are used for intended purposes. It is the cornerstone of ensuring that public resources are used effectively, efficiently and transparently. Therefore, the work you do as auditors is critical to the success of our dear State and its citizens.

"As auditors, you are expected to maintain high standards of integrity, professionalism and independence. You are also expected to communicate your findings and recommendations to the appropriate authorities and stakeholders in a timely manner. Failure to perform these roles has consequences that are too weighty to be imagined', the HoS advised.

In an opening remark, the Auditor General for State, Mr. Akorede Balogun, appreciated the governor, the HoS, and the organisers of the training for their approval and relentless efforts at making it a reality, as the training was important for memory rejuvenation in order to achieve excellent performance on the job and in turn efficiency in the service.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Somoye admonished the participants to make good use of the training by converting the knowledge gathered for the benefit of the State and their personal lives.

Earlier in a welcome address, the  Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, who revealed that the training was done based on observed gaps, charged the auditors to reciprocate government's huge investment in training, despite paucity of funds, by taking good advantage of the training and the experience of the carefully selected resource persons to keep improving themselves at their duty posts and the State at large.
