Towards achieving his administration’s drive on food security, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised to pursue more Agricultural initiatives with renewed vigour, to ensure that the State becomes the food basket of the nation.
Governor Abiodun, who made this known while meeting with farmers, at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, said the State had done so much in ensuring agricultural production and industrialisation, such as the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), distribution of seedlings and farm inputs to farmers, training and free advisory services, linkage to funds and market, mechanisation of farming processes, among others.
He stated that the government would continue to partner with local and international investors and development partners, for the growth of the sector, as well as the prosperity of the citizenry.
Earlier in his address, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, disclosed that the exploits recorded in the Agric sector were possible due to the prioritisation embarked on by the government, noting that in a short period, jobs had been created for youths alongside empowerment, fund and market for farmers with training on best agricultural best practices, various value addition and value-chain processes, to benefit maximally from their produce.
In a goodwill message, the National vice President of the All-Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Prince Segun Dasaolu, applauded the government on behalf of all farmers for its laudable strides in the sector, saying farmers had benefitted immensely from the various agricultural opportunities of the government.
