OSINBAJO COMMISSIONS 100-BED MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL AND SKILL ACQUISITION CENTER IN OGUN



The Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has commissioned a 100- Bed Mother and Child Hospital in Ogun State.


Professor Yemi Osinbajo also commissioned a skill acquisition center in Ilishan where he disclosed that no young person should go through the frustration of joblessness.


 "This is why we have ensured that we provide in collaboration with state and local governments, places for the development of human development, this includes technology hubs, skill acquisition center and facilities especially for digital education and training.


" The skill acquisition center is fully equipped with sowing machines, computers, welding and fabrication equipments as well as photography and vulcanizing equipments," he said.


 Professor Yemi Osinbajo who made this known during the commissioning of a 100 Bed Mother and Child Hospital in Iperu and a skill acquisition center in Ilishan, Ikenne Local Government area of the state, disclosed that the project is linked to the Sustainable Development Goal number 3.


According to the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goal 3 is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, "Good Health and Well-being", is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015.


The project is a collaboration between the Ogun State Government and the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.


 Osinbajo while noting that the event symbolizes the tremendous progress that has been made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in promoting the health and welfare of all the people of the country, added that the hospital is an investment for the future.


" This center is directly linked to the acheivment of the SDG 3 for quality health and wellbeing for all as well as other cross cutting SDG's.


" This hospital is indeed an investment for the future, a testament to the women and children all over our state.


" This hospital is a testament to our commitment to the healthcare of women and children for ensuring that we secure the future of Ogun State.


" This 100 bed Mother and Child center is equipped with the state of the art facilities which includes, two operating centers, recovery rooms, private and general wards,scanning rooms, consultation rooms and laboratories, other facilities include an ultra scan machine and a vaccum extraction delivery set," he said.


Osinbajo who also added that he would soon be commissioning another set of ongoing projects around the local government, disclosed that an already completed 250 Bed Mother and Child Hospital in Ikenne and a 24 classroom in Ikenne Community High School would soon be commissioned for the use of the people of the local government and the state as a whole.


" We will also be commissioning another set of ongoing projects around here including the construction of a 250 bed Mother and Child Hospital in Ikenne which is already practically completed, the construction of a mega school which is 24 classroom in the Ikenne Community High School premises which is already completed, their is also a mini stadium at the Ikenne Community High Court nearing completion, and the completion of 36 classrooms at the Mayflower School, Ikenne," he said.


In his remarks, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun while commending President Muhammad Buhari for adopting the Sustainable Development Goal and allowing the state to be a beneficiary of the project, added that the project would further help to reduce maternal and child mortality.


Abiodun while noting that the state has a special program tagged 'Ibidero' that allows indigent women in the state to give birth without paying, added that the program also allows the state government to pay such women 5,000 naira for giving birth at the facility.


" We have a program under the Ministry of Health that is called 'Ibidero', and that is the program that allows our indigent women to come to a facility like this and give birth having enrolled in our healthcare program, you will now give birth without having to pay anything.


" As a matter of fact, not only will they not pay anything, we actually pay them five thousand naira for coming here to give birth," he said.
