Ogun State Government says the immense contributions of women to socio-economic growth of the country cannot be overemphasised, hence its continued support to enhance their businesses through favourable policies and programmes.
Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe made this known in Abeokuta while meeting with the newly elected executives of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Abeokuta chapter, who paid her a courtesy visit ahead of their investiture.
Longe, who is also a Patroness of the Association noted that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had empowered the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Business Clinic with capacity-building programmes for women groups to start and grow their businesses, affirming that the interventions had improved their entrepreneurial skills.
According to the Commissioner, "we are helping a lot of women start and grow their businesses. There are also different programmes that have helped improve their capacity. This government will continue to do more to support women entrepreneurs’’.
She charged the new leadership to be strategic, flexible and inclusive in its approach to exceed the achievements of the past executives, calling on the Association to come up with innovative ideas that would enhance women’s emancipation in the State.
In her address, the Chairperson, SWAN, Abeokuta chapter, Mrs. Adenike Tonade said the body would continue to promote the tenets of the Accounting profession, while helping to address the challenges facing women and girl-child.
Tonade, who intimated the Commissioner of the Association’s investiture of the new executives in March 2023, assured of its efforts at making a better life for the people, especially in the area of women empowerment in tandem with SWAN constitution.
