NINE-YEAR-OLD,OGUN PUPIL WINS NATIONAL DEBATE

A nine-year-old Ogun indigene, Miss Docars Adewunmi has been declared winner of the National debate organised for primary schools in Nigeria held in Abuja.


Adewunmi, a primary five pupil of Ansar-ud-deen Primary School 1, Sabo, Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of the State, emerged as the National Champion of the President’s Inter Basic (primary) School debate by the  Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).


Unveiling the year champion of the President inter-basic (Primary) school debate championship, the Chairman, Association of primary school Head Teachers of Nigeria(APSHTON), Yewa South Local Government, Mr. Adekunle Babatunde said the provision of academic infrastructure and conducive learning environment by the State government was a major boost that enabled the pupil to emerged national champion at the national debate competition, noting that teachers would not relent on their oars with the assurance that education sector remains at the top.


"Let me use this medium to assure the government that our teachers are more determined and ready to continue to put in their best to ensure that in every competition of this nature, our learners continue to excel and ensure that the educational development of the State remains at the top.


Adekunle appreciated the Governor for his huge investment, towards the ‘’Yellow roof’’ infrastructure, prompt payment of teachers' salaries and promotion of teachers across the board in the State.


      In her remark, the Secretary, Yewa South Local Government Education Authority, Mrs. Adetutu Adeyemi lauded the State government for its support before and during the competition, as well as the innovative template  to nurture and monitor the girl child, adding that the development would help to discover upcoming talents in the State.


Responding, the winner, Miss Adewunmi, who described the national competition as a tough one, thanked the State government for providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning, which enabled her to achieve success.
