Two yet-to-be-identified persons have drowned in Lagos while trying to rescue another person from being swept away by the high current at Baracuda Beach on Monday.
It was gathered that the victims were part of fun seekers who thronged the beach for the Boxing Day celebration in Lagos.
Confirming the tragic incident, the State Permanent Secretary of the Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the bodies of the victims were yet to be recovered as of the time of filing this report.
She said the agency responded to distress calls concerning an incident at Baracuda Beach, Abraham Adesanya, Ajah, on arrival at the scene it was reported that two beachgoers had drowned.
”Further investigations gathered disclosed that two males adult died during a failed rescue attempt of a third adult male. The lifeguard stationed at the beach reported that the victims ventured beyond the red line.
”Solo rescue beyond these limits is forbidden. However, Search and recovery operation ongoing.”
