The crisis between the leaderships of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Ogun State Park Management (OGSPAM) took a new twist on Thursday following the detention of the Chairman of OGSPAM, Akeem Bodunrin Iyeru, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Recall that members of the two transport unions had last week engaged in a shoot-out during the 2022 Itori Day festival, injuring the Ogun RTEAN Chairman, Akibu Titilayo, who is fondly addressed as Efele.
While the RTEAN alleged that Iyeru was the one who shot Efele during the incident, the OGSPAM boss had denied the allegation, describing same as laughable.
Since the incident, security agencies in Ogun, including the police and the DSS had summoned the union leaders to answer queries about their roles in the fracas.
On Thursday, Iyeru had visited the DSS office in Abeokuta and he was not allowed to go home, DAILY POST learnt.
In a statement, the management of OGSPAM, raised the alarm over the detention of Iyeru by theDSS, describing Iyeru’s detention as unfair.
According to the statement signed by its media officer, Moshood Arikewuyo, OGSPAM disclosed that Iyeru had in the early hours of Thursday “turned up at the Abeokuta office of the DSS on the invitation of the authorities of the DSS for questioning over the crisis rocking the leadership of transport unions in Ogun State.”
While saying his detention was unfair, Arikewuyo expressed surprises that Iyeru was detained by the DSS after honouring an invitation for questioning.
“Other transport union leaders that were invited for questioning were not detained, why only Iyeru? This is unfair and barbaric,” he said.
“As posited in our press release last week, Iyeru is a father to all the transport union leaders in Ogun state and could not have attacked any of his children.
“We are calling on Gov. Dapo Abiodun, Chief Olusegun Osoba and other stakeholders to wade into this matter,” he stated.
The DSS could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, did not pick his phone, neither did he reply a text message sent to him.
However, a source said that Iyeru might be handed over to the police for further interrogation.
