OGSG JUSTIFIES REFORMATION OF PUBLIC PROCUREMENT PROCESS

 



Ogun State Government says the reformation of its public procurement process would promote value driven spending.


Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan revealed this during a 4-Day training on new Procurement Plan Templates and Methods, for Procurement Secretaries, at the Bureau’s Conference room, Oke-ilewo, Abeokuta.


Olabimtan, who doubles as the Chairman of the State Council on Public Procurement stated that the bulk of public spending should be through procurement that would be in line with the global best practices.


He noted that the public procurement reform embarked upon by the government was in stages to move the State forward, saying “the Bureau of Public Procurement in the State is taking new shape and I want you to understand the significance of what the government is doing in this direction.  We want to improve on the way taxpayer money is spent through the proper procurement process’’.


He implored participants to avail themselves of the opportunity of the training to be good ambassadors of procurement practices in their various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).


Speaking earlier, the Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye, said the Bureau serves as a moderator and hub of all public procurement activities in the State, to ensure transparency, value-for-money, competitiveness, accountability and fairness in the procurement process.


Olanloye urged the participants to be focused, saying  knowledge gained would be used in  the preparation of 2023 procurement plan in the State.


In her goodwill message, the Project Coordinator, Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odunsi commended the Bureau for implementing the vision of the State government, admonishing the participants to contribute meaningfully during the training session.


Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mr. Oladotun Temowo and Mrs. Simbo Olayinka from the Ministries of Information and Strategy and Environment  respectively, lauded the organiser for the training, saying skill acquired would help their procurement planning and activities in the coming year.
