As the 21st National Sports Festival in Delta State advances, the team Ogun athletes continue to blaze the trail, with a Darts player, Mrs. Lolade Adeyemi winning a gold medal for the State.
Adeyemi, who was at the Festival with her 10 months old boy, Bobo, while speaking with OGIS correspondent stated that motherhood would not deter her from achieving the dream of leaving Delta with gold medals.
Adeyemi won one gold and a bronze medal in Darts at the ongoing event, saying “it has been tough for me to combine training and playing my role as a mother, but I thank God for making it possible for me to achieve my dream. I was fully ready for these games, that is why I had a bronze and a gold medal at this festival".
Also speaking, a bronze medalist at the last Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Ishau Ogunkunle, who won a gold medal in the men's single class 4 and one silver in men's 4-5 class team event, said he was pleased to be one of the participants in the 21st National Sports Festival, Delta 2022, adding that after rigorous training and preparation, the moment of glory came to show the world the stuff that he was made of.
Another athlete, who is the captain of team Ogun Cycling, Emmanuel Agbebi whose team won first gold medal for the State in cycling team 4km pursuit, stated that he was delighted for attaining the feat.
"I am particularly delighted and grateful to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, an acknowledged lover of sports who sponsored and provided funds for the 21st National Sports Festival that made it possible for me and my team to showcase our God given talents. I promise that more gold medals should be expected from the team", Agbebi said.
Other athletes including the team Ogun Golfer gold medal winner, Jide Owolabi, who won bronze in Taolu event (Demonstration), Adelola Fashina, and a para powerlifting gold medalist in the on-going Festival, Latifat Tijani, appreciated the State government for the encouragement and support to keep them in their best form through adequate provision for their needs.
Team Ogun is participating in 29 out of 39 Sporting events slated for the festival, and has won 40 medals comprising of 10 gold, 8 silver and 22 bronze medals.
