In a bid to ensure that projects, policies, plans and programmes of Ogun State Government are well delivered to standard for better outcomes, the Special Adviser to State Governor on Government Delivery and Head, Government Delivery Unit, Mr. Lekan Onamusi has assured that his office would intensify efforts on its inspection exercise.
Onamusi gave the assurance during a monitoring and evaluation exercise to some public schools in Ogun East Senatorial District, saying the inspection would enable the government to get valuable information on the impact of projects, determine areas for modifications and improvement.
He pointed out that Government Delivery Unit (GDU) was created to engage and collaborate with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, as well as stakeholders in ensuring transparency, accountability, resource control, conflict resolution, quality assurance, and due process, to promote the success rates of state government’s projects and initiatives.
The Governor’s Aide added that three teams were designated to visit school facilities in accordance with the Unit schedule, to gather feedback for the advancement of the education sector in the State.
According to the Special Adviser, ‘’the field exercise we have embarked on is a working process aimed at assessing the situation of facilities in schools, particularly with interest to improve and deliver better outcomes. The exercise became necessary due to the need to get reliable feedback from the public who were at the receiving end of the government's policies, plans and programmes’’.
In her remark, the Head Teacher, Local Government Primary School, Obalende in Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Mrs. Oladunni Olumeko, commended the government for creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning, saying its Home-Grown Feeding programme had impacted on the pupils’ nutritional intake and enrolment in the school.
Also speaking, the Principal,Itamapako High School, Iloti in Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Mrs. Aderami Ajayi applauded the effort of the team for the visit noting that essential infrastructural development in schools would improve academic performances of students.
Meanwhile, Mr. Onanusi has restated the present administration’s determination to enhance the health system of the State through the provision of state–of –art medical facilities to all levels of healthcare.
The GDU Head, in company of the State Consultant on Government Delivery, Mr. Robert Odiachi and some staffers of the Unit to State Hospital, Ijaye , Oba Ademola II Maternity Hospital, Olikoye Ransome Kuti and Local Government Health Centre Adeun, all in Abeokuta, said their mission was to take critical look at the level of facilities in place and how well they were serving the health needs of the people, and to see how things could be improved.
Responding, Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oba Ademola II Maternity Hospital, his counterpart in State Hospital, Ijaiye, Dr. Taiwo Olugbenga and Dr. Bunmi Osinaike respectively, promised their continued support for the present administration’s agenda in the delivery of affordable and qualitative health care services.
