The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, has said that one thousand five hundred primary schools would be participating in the 3rd edition of the primary school’s 2022 Governor’s cup.
Dr. Femi Majekodunmi disclosed this while flagging off activities for the commencement of the tournament in Abeokuta.
The SUBEB boss who revealed that the tournament would run for ten days starting from November 16, with the finals to be played on December 12, 2022, urged the participating schools to respect the decisions of the organisers during the tournament.
According to him, ‘’ school sports is an important aspect of learners' life as it helps in improving their health, as well as inculcating the virtues of discipline, hard work, patience, respect, teamwork, among others into them.''
The Chairman enjoined learners to participate more in sporting activities to attain a better spirit of sportsmanship expected in the competition, noting that the essence of the event was to discover talents among the participants who would represent the State in the national football competition.
Earlier, the Director of Academic and School Service, Ogun SUBEB, Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose, said the event was another opportunity to positively engage school children, identify and raise future stars in the sports sector, urging the participating schools to desist from a “winning-at-all-cost attitude”.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of logo, jerseys, and decoration of the participants from the 20 Local Government Education Secretariats.
