OGUN HEALTH INSURANCE, KEY TO UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE- COMMISSIONER






Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, has said the present administration's Health Insurance Scheme would help accelerate universal health coverage in the State.


Coker, who made this known while promoting the Scheme at markets, motor parks, and other strategic locations in Remo axis of the State, described Universal Health Coverage as a sustainable commitment that ensures all individuals and communities receive the health services they need without financial hardship.


She noted that the Dapo Abiodun-led government had renovated, equipped, and staffed Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in all Local Government Areas of the State, saying the PHCs were the access points for enrollees to the Insurance Scheme.


The Commissioner said enrollees needed to commit a monthly fee of N1,000 per person or N4,000 for a family of six to access comprehensive healthcare anywhere in Ogun State under the insurance programme, which provides coverage for more than 250 diseases.


She added that the Scheme includes, Basic Healthcare Provision Funds (BHCPF) for the vulnerable, catering for children under five years, pregnant women, people above 60 years, and those with disabilities, saying more than 50,000 beneficiaries across the three Senatorial Districts of the State had been enlisted to access healthcare free of charge.


"The Scheme also caters for the Informal sector which includes artisans, traders, unions, and the formal sector including bankers, civil servants, and employees of private business entities. There is also an arrangement for students that allow them to access healthcare and give their parents rest of mind", she said.


The Commissioner enjoined residents of the State to take advantage of the Scheme, adding that the government would continue to engage all stakeholders to achieve Universal Health Coverage in the near future.


The Brand Ambassador of the Scheme and a renowned Nollywood Actor, Mr. Odunlade Adekola, who was part of the sensitisation programme, described the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme as Governor Dapo Abiodun's best gift to all residents of the State.


He said the Scheme, if embraced by residents, would save anyone who develops a serious medical condition from having to pay out-of-pocket for treatment, explaining that the insurance programme also caters for screening of common diseases that could lead to untimely death.
