Ogun State Government has given cash gifts to victims of a petrol tanker explosion which occurred at Olambe street, Matogun in Ifo Local Government Area, to cushion the effects of the incident.
Speaking during the presentation of the cash gifts in Ifo, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Oluwafemi Ilori-Oduntan said the government was committed to the welfare and well-being of residents, particularly during disasters.
Ilori-Oduntan assured that the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun would continue to deliver on his electioneering promises to the citizens, urging beneficiaries to make judicious use of the assistance.
She said "Our task today is to give financial assistance to people whose properties were affected by the inferno. We, therefore, enjoin you to make judicious use of the money”.
In his remark, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, advised the people to be safety conscious at all times, to avert preventable occurrences.
Earlier in her speech, the Chairman, Ifo Local Government, Mrs. Kikelomo Delano lauded the Governor for coming to the aid of the victims, imploring the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture.
Speaking, the Director, Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Olawale Shonde, said the Agency would not relent in responding to the needs of the people, particularly in the area of emergency management.
Responding, two of the beneficiaries, Pastor Adeola Julius and Mr. Akinwale Ogunlana appreciated the government for the intervention, saying the gifts would help them resuscitate their means of livelihood.
