Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat has disclosed that the Ministry would soon commence monitoring exercise to all the 20 Local Governments Areas of the State, to ensure the judicious use of funds released by the State government for the execution of projects.
He said the exercise became imperative, as the present administration was determined to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.
Hon. Hamzat made the disclosure while playing host to the Assembly’s House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who came on a familiarisation visit to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to him, ‘"the present administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun plan was to ensure that by the end of the year, the 236 wards in the State, have more viable projects to boast of, as monitoring of all the 20 Local Governments for project evaluation will be done, to justify the grants released to them’’.
The Commissioner reiterated his Ministry's unwavering resolve to maintain cordial relationship with the legislature, as both were striving to give the best to the people of the State.
In his remark, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun stated that the State government has not in any way tampered with Local Government funds, saying on several occasions it had come to the aid of the councils whenever there were shortfalls in their monthly allocations.
On his part, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Lateef Bolanle, appreciated the Ministry for providing adequate welfare for the Local Governments and traditional institutions, to further create a good sense of belonging for the people, especially at the grassroots.
