Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, has hit back at Manchester United legend Gary Neville over comments he made about defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Neville had warned that Alexander-Arnold could cost England at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Alexander-Arnold was included in England manager Gareth Southgate’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad on Thursday.
The right-back has helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup in recent years.
But while Alexander-Arnold has impressed with his attacking skills, he has faced some criticism over his defensive capabilities.
When asked about Neville’s criticism of Alexander-Arnold, Klopp told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League tie with Southampton this weekend: “I heard Gary Neville said something [about Trent].
“But he is now 24 and won quite a few finals, important games where you have to defend against world-class players.
“He was always there, defending well. I don’t know why we have this discussion.”
