Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the four kilometres Oba Erinwole Road in Sagamu Local Government Area, with a promise to work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to construct the Ogijo-Sagamu road.
Governor Abiodun at the commissioning of the road in Sagamu, said the State government would commence the construction of the Hospital road in Sagamu, this week.
He said though the Oba Erinwole Road has a direct bearing on the socio-economic life of the people, it was unattended to by the previous administration leading to its deplorable condition.
"We realised that the majority of these roads have a direct bearing to the economic circumstances of our people. One of such neglected roads is this Oba Erinwole Road. By the time we came into office, the road had become a nightmare completely unpassable, and caused untold hardship to our people and Sagamu was becoming a pariah among cities because of this neglect. This Project again is a touchstone to our commitment as a promise-keeping Administration. We will continue to fulfill all our promises in all parts of Ogun State”, Abiodun said.
The Governor noted that the road apart from being a major link to Lagos, the nation's economic capital and live wire of economic activities to Sagamu, provides access to industries operating in the axis, saying it was constructed to meet the required standard.
Abiodun reiterated that his administration had constructed over 80 major roads totaling 400 kilometres across the State, noting that the Oba Erinwole Road, which was one of his campaign promises, would improve the living standard of the people and open up the potential of the town for more business activities.
The State’s helmsman said his administration in the last three and a half years had been able to rekindle the hope of the people by deploring alternative financial strategies through the public-private partnership in executing projects across the State.
He said the road was chosen by the people based on their needs, noting that his government would ensure that all Local Government Areas benefit from road projects just as graders and rollers would be deployed to councils to attend to roads at the grassroots.
In his goodwill message, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, noted that the road before the reconstruction, was one of the most deplorable roads in the State, appreciating the present administration for spreading developmental projects to all parts of the State.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Akin Adesanya said the road would promote economic relationship between the people of Sagamu and Ikorodu in Lagos, adding that the project had provided jobs for the youths, as well as impacted the socio-economic development of people in the axis.
In his remark, the Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Afolabi Odulate said the Oba Erinwole road, which is one of the most important roads in the town, was in a poor State for a long time, but the intervention of the State government in putting it back in good shape is something the people would be grateful for in years to come.
