Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said his administration would harness the State's comparative advantages of being closer to Lagos State and make it conducive for people to live, work and play.
Governor Abiodun disclosed this when he played host to the Chief Executive Officer, Terra Kulture, a movie production outfit, Mrs. Bolanle Peters and other management staff of the company at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Governor noted that the State had heritage sites, as well as stars in music, movies and other branches of the entertainment industry, adding that this formed the decision of the government to set up a creative arts village.
‘’Being closer to Lagos State and having a comparative advantage over other states, we decided to create an enabling environment for people to come and live, work and play. We began to think of how to put in place a Creative Arts and Entertainment Village in Ogun State that will allow people to have some form of entertainment to have a balanced life’’, the Governor said.
He acknowledged the contributions of the country's movie industry to economic growth, with over N1bn being generated for the first quarter of 2022, noting that, ‘’the setting up of the studio in the State capital is in tandem with my administration's vision to have a creative arts village in the State’’.
In her remark, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Adijat Oladapo-Adeleye, said the influx of investors and movie makers into the State was as a result of measures put in place by the present government on ease of doing business, as well as security that exist in the State.
Earlier in her presentation, Mrs. Peters said Terra Kulture outfit was into movie production business, showcasing Africans’ creativity in film production that is of world standard.
She stated that the visit was to intimate the Governor of their intention to build a world class creative arts studio in Abeokuta, due to its peaceful atmosphere, friendly people and good access roads leading to shooting sites.
According to her, "when we were thinking about where to have our studio, we thought about Abeokuta for various reasons. We have been here to shoot 'Funmilayo Ransome Kuti' and it was a pleasant experience that endeared me in particular to the city.
