OGUN TO INSTALL SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS IN SCHOOLS



Ogun State Government is working out modalities to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in all public schools across the State, to ensure maximum security, monitoring of infrastructure, teaching and learning activities directly from its Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.


Commissioner in the Ministry, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu dropped this hint in Abeokuta, during a sentisation programme, organised for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), educators and stakeholders in the education sector, stating that installation of the cameras would start with the 42 flagship schools.


Prof. Arigbabu noted that the present administration had decided to introduce a STEM Intensive Teaching Methodology in senior secondary schools through Progressive Science Initiative (PSI) and Progressive Mathematics Initiative (PMI), to further impart the learners.


The Commissioner said, "the State is in process of installing cameras in schools, starting with the 42 flagship schools, to monitor activities in schools directly from the Ministry".


Arigbabu stated that the six pillars of Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) which are curriculum development, management, technology integration into teaching and learning, revenue funding, infrastructure development and teachers/students welfare were driven by technology and was yielding desired results.


Giving an overview of the sensitisation programme, the Acting Project Manager, Skill Development, Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), Mr. Fatai Osunsanya said the event was to empower educators to increase students’ engagement in mathematics and science subjects, towards transforming learning activities in schools.


Speaking, the representative of Africa University of Science and Technology, Dr. Sola Odusanya said the contentious issues in education centered around access, quality and relevance, commending the present administration for various packages that keep projecting the State as number one in the delivery of quality education.
