Ogun State Government has put in place necessary measures to coordinate its actions towards addressing germane issues around rule of law, law enforcement, security, as well as stability in the Southwestern region, to further ensure that the State remains the safest place to live in and do business without security threat.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), stated this in Abeokuta, at the meeting of the Southwest Attorneys-General, saying security issues were germane to the government to further formulate and achieve policies that could be implemented among all States in the region.
Mr. Ogungbade said the meeting aimed to collaborate at the level of Attorney-General in the Southwestern region and address key issues relating to insecurity, domestic violence, as well as advise the government at various State levels.
He noted that the focus of the present administration was to address civil disputes or reported offenses, saying “in relation to sexual offenses, the State government had set up a response team under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Management Committee to respond to complaints involving sexual abuse, domestic violence and facilitate the provision of medical psycho-social and legal support to the victims”.
Contributing, his Ekiti State counterpart, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda (SAN), said the forum was to cross-fertilise ideas regarding issues that affect the general public.
Fapohunda, who doubles as the Chairman of the Southwest Attorneys-General stated that much had been done to harmonising judgment in criminal and commercial matters, saying they would continually work together to ensure that a proposal was sent to the National Assembly.
He added that the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission had provided a collaborative role to tackle issues that affect the Southwestern States such as industrialisation, agriculture and good governance within the regions.
