Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun has urged companies in the government forest reserves not to compromise safety as stipulated in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Certificate.
Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate is a key document containing environmental implication of waste, which prospective companies must adhere to.
Engr. Oludotun stated this at Area J4 during a working visit to a proposed wood processing factory, Smart Wood Nigeria Limited, located along Ore-Sagamu Expressway, saying the step became imperative to ensure the safety of the people living around the site.
He directed the Production Manager of the company, Mr. Sule Adekunle to forward the work plan of the proposed company to his office within the shortest possible period and embark on the planting of trees, as a major source of raw materials when its business commences.
“It is good you are citing the company within the State. It will be more appreciated if you can furnish us with details of your work plan, so that we can know where and when to intervene if necessary”, he said.
Responding, Mr. Adekunle called on the government to assist the company, in the area of insecurity faced by workers and illegal activities in the area.
