CULTURE COMMISSIONER EMPHASISES SIGNIFICANCE OF FINE ARTS

Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo says the study of Fine Arts is self-sustainable among other benefits that can be derived from it.

Hon. Adeleye-Oladapo made this known in Abeokuta during a 2-Day Fine Arts competition on "Culture and Peaceful Coexistence", for secondary school students across the State, saying it was an avenue to propagate love and unity to the world through crafts.

The Commissioner stated that research and statistics had shown that the study of Fine Art was no longer appealing to students, saying the government decided to organise the contest to motivate both teachers and students in the field.

She commended Fine Arts teachers for their passion in the subject and efforts in imparting it to younger generations, encouraging the students to take the subject as a career worthy and capable of generating huge income for them.

In his address, Director of Visual Arts in the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Ikwue assured that the State government would ensure continuity of the competition, appreciating stakeholders in the sector for the symbiotic relationship with the Ministry.

Other participating schools include, Salau Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele, Lantoro High School, Oke-Lantoro, Abeokuta, Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Onikolobo, Army Day Secondary School, Alamala and Anglican Grammar School Ota, and were compensated with certificates of participation.
