Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has revealed plans to intensify efforts on a power project tagged "Ogun Light Up", which will lead to more distribution of transformers to the 20 Local Government Areas, to address the seeming electricity challenges affecting the State and the nation's economy.
Governor Abiodun stated this in Sagamu, at a town hall meeting towards the year 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and year 2023 Budget, noting that the project would be carried out in partnership with some private investors.
The Governor said meaningful development and optimal productivity could be achieved through constant power supply, adding that his administration was determined to improve electricity supply across the State, to boost standard of living and business activities of the people.
Abiodun noted that effort was in top gear to collaborate with the Lagos State Government to extend the Light Rail line project from Alagbado to Kajola and Okokomaiko to Agbara under the Multi-Modal Transport Masterplan initiative of the present government, saying the Agro Cargo Airport project situated at the centre point of the State in Remo division would create over 25,000 direct and indirect jobs for the entire citizenry.
"As a government, we will continue to be focused, deliberate and methodical in our commitment to provide dividends of democracy for the people of the State with special considerations to projects with viable socio-economic benefits", he said.
Earlier in his presentation, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan hinted that the meeting was aimed at cultivating the citizens contributions, inputs and suggestions through a feedback mechanism approach towards achieving good governance, noting that consultations on developmental issues would promote peace and engender inter-ethnic and socio-cultural harmonious living among the people.
In his remark, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, appreciated the Governor for the innumerable achievements recorded by the present government in Remo division, appealing for rehabilitation of more rural roads and provision of palliatives on some bad portions of roads in the area, such as the Sagamu- Ikorodu, to serve as an alternative route to address the gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Also speaking, an elder statesman in the area, Chief Pegba Otemolu, commended Prince Dapo Abiodun for his leadership style of governance, calling for more funding for security in the 2023 Budget towards the welfare of indigenous vigilante groups for improved services.
On their parts, the representative of people living with disabilities, Mrs. Bisi Osinowo, solicited for government’s assistance in the provision of a befitting secretariat and to accord them a sense of belonging to be able to contribute their quota towards the development of the State, while the Ogun State President for the National Council for Women Society (NCWS), Olori Bola Adeyiga, said women should be given opportunity to participate actively in politics and contribute towards the ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda of the present administration.
