The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye said the agency has been exploring data profitably to expand tax net and generate more revenue.
Mr. Olaleye made this known while playing host to the State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe and her management team to the OGIRS headquarters in Abeokuta.
The Chairman identified data gathering and sharing among government agencies as key towards increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the State.
According to him, “the agency has been able to increase the number of captured companies (otherwise known as Tax Agents) from 3,148 to over 20,000 with the aid of data gathered from other government agencies and physical enumeration of all the nooks and crannies of the State, within 3 years”.
Speaking earlier, Mrs. Longe said the visit was borne out of the need to generate more revenue into government coffers, adding that ‘’this can be achieved through data gathering and sharing between her Ministry and OGIRS”.
The Commissioner noted that collaboration of both agencies would create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and help the public to carry out their civic responsibilities with ease towards increasing the State IGR.
Thereafter, both agencies constituted a committee to work on modalities and come up with a work plan upon which the synergy would be driven.
